Over 6 million people flock to Munich every year to experience Oktoberfest.

While Germany holds the record for the largest Oktoberfest, not everyone is able to make the trip across the pond to enjoy the German Beer. But don’t worry — Nashville is home to its very own Oktoberfest.

They say that you haven’t tasted a great drink until you taste German beer. Keep reading to discover why you should sample the Holy Grail of beers in Nashville this October.

What Makes German Beer So Special?

Before we can convince you to visit Nashville Oktoberfest, you need to know what makes German beer so special.

Reinheitsgebot is Germany beer purity law that passed in 1516. According to the law, all German beer is only brewed with barley, malt, hops, and water. This makes German beer the purest beer you can come by.

Despite the limitations on ingredients, there’s still a large selection of flavors and styles to be had. Odds are, there’s a German beer that’ll satisfy your taste buds.

What Is Nashville Oktoberfest?

Maybe you’re unfamiliar with German beer and want a way to taste a variety of flavors in one place. Or maybe you’re a true German beer fan and can’t get your hand on enough authentic Oktoberfest brews. Or maybe, you just enjoy a fun-filled weekend full of activities.

These are the reasons that Nashville Oktoberfest is the place to be.

From Thursday, October 10 through Sunday, October 13, Nashville is home to America’s second-largest Oktoberfest. This year marks the 40th annual Nashville Oktoberfest, held in conjunction with the German Street Fair and Fall Festival.

General admission to the event is free and the weekend is family friendly.

Is There More Than Just Beer?

While German beer is the center of attention at Nashville Oktoberfest, there’s a lot more to enjoy than just hops, malt, and barley.

Throughout the whole weekend, you can enjoy live German music, arts and craft vendors, and authentic German food.

If you’re the more active-type, participate in the annual 5K Bier Run, complete with a celebratory beer. Better yet — visit the famous beer slide, a 200-foot slide that also includes the beer slide championships for your competitive side.

If you’re bringing along the family, check out the annual Oktoberfest parade and the pup parade. Children will love visiting the kid’s zone and watching the Dachshund Derby.

These are just a few of the great activities planned for this year’s festival. Visit the Nashville Oktoberfest website for a full schedule of events
