Calling all beer lovers!

Have you bought your tickets to Nashville’s Oktoberfest yet?

If not, you’re missing out on a great time.

Authentic beers imported from Munich. A slew of hilarious beer drinking games. A 5k bier run, German music, brats and pretzels galore.

These are a few of many things you’ll see at the 40th annual fest — which is Nashville’s oldest festival and America’s second-largest Oktoberfest to date.

The four-day event attracts over a quarter of a million visitors. Will you be one of them?

If so, prepare yourself by studying up on these fun drinking games that you’re sure to play. Prost!

Oktoberfest’s Famous Beer Drinking Games

Here’s an idea of what you’ll be sipping during these drinking challenges:

  • Paulaner Hefeweizen — The world’s #1 wheat beer
  • Paulaner Oktoberfest Wies’n — Germany’s #1 Oktoberfest beer
  • Hacker Pschorr Munich Gold — A classic, full-bodied German beer that’s been famous since 1417
  • Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen — A beer brewed in March (Marzen means “March beer”) over 200 years ago, making it ready just in time for Oktoberfest

Fill your stein and enjoy one of the following fun drinking games.

1. Hammerschlagen

You’re bound to see a tree stump somewhere at Oktoberfest — after all, Hammerschlagen is one of the most classic games played at this fest.

To start, each contestant must hit a nail into the stump about halfway, so the nail is facing upright. Once everyone gets their nail in straight, the game begins.

Take the pointy side of the hammer and, using one arc, try to get your nail all the way in the stump. Keep playing until someone “nails” it.

For every miss, down a beer.

2. Flunky Ball

Grab two teams (at least two people each) and find an open field.

Place any type of bottle in the middle, with each team on opposite sides. The more space between you, the more challenging the game.

By your side, every player will have an un-opened beer (or a draught beer they’re saving). Using a ping pong ball, each team will attempt to knock over the bottle in the middle.

If you miss, keep going. If you hit the bottle, crack your beer and begin chugging. You must do so until the other team retrieves the ball — then stop.

The first team to finish their entire beer wins!

3. Beer Stein Holding Competition

Each player holds a stein, which is filled to 1L with their choice of brew.

They must hold the stein by the handle (not cupping the stein!) with a straight arm. It’s as simple as that. No unnecessary leaning forwards or backward; no bending of the arm for support.

Whoever holds the glass for the most extended amount of time wins the game — however, everyone wins the right to chug what’s in their stein!
